July 4, 2026 isn't just another Independence Day β€” it's America's Semiquincentennial, the 250th birthday of the United States. And here in Southwest Florida, we know how to throw a celebration. From expanded fireworks shows and patriotic parades to historical sites where you can connect with the story of this nation, there's no better place to mark this once-in-a-lifetime milestone than along the Gulf Coast.

I moved to Southwest Florida because I fell in love with this community β€” the people, the lifestyle, the way neighbors become family. Whether you've lived here your whole life or you're visiting for the first time, these celebrations are a reminder of why this corner of Florida is so special. I've put together everything you need to know to make the most of the holiday weekend across Cape Coral, Fort Myers, Naples, Bonita Springs, and Estero.

πŸŽ† Cape Coral β€” Red, White & BOOM!

Cape Coral's Red, White & BOOM! is Southwest Florida's largest single-day event, and for America's 250th, the celebration is going all out. Here's what's happening on July 4:

  • Freedom 5K & Kid's Fun Run β€” Start the day moving! The Priority Business Solutions Freedom 5K kicks off at 7 a.m. at Bernice Braden Park.
  • "Raise the Flag" Ceremony β€” Join your neighbors at Bernice Braden Park at 2 p.m. for a patriotic flag-raising ceremony.
  • Slipaway Food Truck Park & Marina 4th of July Bash β€” Starting at 4 p.m., enjoy food trucks and waterfront festivities.
  • Red, White & BOOM! β€” The main event runs from 5 to 10 p.m. near the Cape Coral Bridge, with live music, food vendors, family fun, and the grand fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. β€” musically synchronized and absolutely spectacular.

This is the kind of event that brings the whole city together. Arrive early, bring a lawn chair, and settle in for one of the best fireworks shows in Florida.

🎢 Fort Myers β€” America's 250th Birthday Celebration

Downtown Fort Myers is hosting a two-day celebration on July 3–4, with approximately $250,000 raised by local businesses and community leaders to make this the biggest Independence Day the city has ever seen.

  • Live Music & Entertainment β€” Both days feature live performances in the heart of downtown along the Caloosahatchee River.
  • Fireworks Over the River β€” The fireworks display on July 4 lights up the sky over the Caloosahatchee, best viewed from the downtown riverfront.
  • Patriotic Art Show β€” Visit the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center throughout July for a group art exhibition celebrating America's 250th birthday (July 3–30).

Fort Myers has such a rich history β€” from Thomas Edison and Henry Ford choosing this city as their winter home to the military heritage of nearby MacDill Air Force Base. There's a deep American spirit here, and it shows during celebrations like this.

πŸ–οΈ Naples β€” America 250 Celebration Parade & Beach Fireworks

Naples is bringing its signature elegance to the holiday with an America 250 Celebration Parade and a stunning fireworks show over the Gulf of Mexico.

  • America 250 Celebration Parade β€” Step off at 9 a.m. from the corner of Third Street South and Fifth Avenue South, ending at City Hall. Road closures run from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., so plan ahead!
  • Beach Fireworks β€” At approximately 9 p.m., watch the fireworks launch from a barge west of the Naples Pier. The best viewing spots are along the beach north of the pier or from a boat on the water.

There's something magical about watching fireworks over the Gulf. If you've never experienced it, this is the year to go.

πŸŽ† Bonita Springs β€” Star Spangled Bonita

Bonita Springs is going big for the 250th with its beloved Star Spangled Bonita celebration at Riverside Park.

  • "Small Town Big Spirit" Parade β€” Starts at 9 a.m. along Old 41 Road. Decorate your bike, bring the kids, and enjoy the small-town charm.
  • Star Spangled Bonita β€” Kicks off at 6 p.m. at Riverside Park (10450 Reynolds St.) with live music, food trucks, family activities, a drone show, and an expanded fireworks display β€” historically running nearly 48 minutes, and you can expect something even grander for the 250th.

Riverside Park is one of my favorite spots in Bonita Springs. It's right on the Imperial River, the vibe is always festive, and it's a perfect family-friendly evening.

πŸ›οΈ Estero β€” History, Heritage & Celebration

Estero offers a uniquely meaningful way to celebrate the 250th, blending historical reverence with community fun.

  • Reading of the Declaration of Independence β€” At 9 a.m., the Estero Historical Society hosts its annual reading at the historic cottage in Estero Community Park. A historian in period costume reads the Declaration, followed by a flag-raising ceremony, free flags, and watermelon for all. It's a beautiful, traditional start to the holiday.
  • Estero USA Independence Day 5K β€” A timed run/walk near Hertz Arena for those who want to kick off the morning with some exercise.
  • Fireworks at Miromar Outlets β€” Evening fireworks display at Miromar Outlets on Corkscrew Road (6–10 p.m. event).

I love that Estero keeps the tradition of reading the Declaration alive. For a Semiquincentennial year, it couldn't be more fitting.

πŸ›οΈ Explore SWFL's Historical Sites

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ A Personal Note from Diana

I've been blessed to call Southwest Florida home, and every July 4th I'm reminded of why. This community comes alive with pride β€” not just for our country, but for each other. I've watched families grow, neighbors become lifelong friends, and newcomers fall in love with this place just like I did.

As the wife of a retired Green Beret, Independence Day holds a special place in my heart. I know the sacrifice behind the freedom we celebrate, and I'm grateful every day to live in a country and a community that honors that.

Whether you're here visiting or you're already a Southwest Florida local, I hope you take time to enjoy these incredible events. And if you're thinking β€” "Wow, I'd love to live here" β€” well, let's make that happen. I have got your back. πŸ’›
